Optimism among Germany’s financial experts rose in early December, marking the second consecutive month of improvement, according to the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) in Mannheim.
ZEW’s closely watched Indicator of Economic Sentiment for Germany climbed 5.7 points to 16.1 this month. In November, the index added 8.5 points to snap seven months of decline.
The institute notes that confidence appears strong enough to overcome the uncertain impact of a massive influx of refugees into Germany and pressure on the country's exports caused by weakened economies in emerging markets.
Germany’s financial community also grew more optimistic about the eurozone’s economy. A separate ZEW index for that region gained 5.6 points this month.
