Coda Holdings Inc., which filed for bankruptcy protection six weeks ago, has been ordered to expand an earlier recall of its 2012 Coda electric sedan to fix faulty side airbag systems.
The new campaign covers 117 vehicles virtually all units sold by the company's struggling Coda Automotive Inc. unit since the latter introduced the EV early last year.
Last August the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration ordered Coda to recall 78 cars to have their side airbags inspected and replaced if necessary.
Under the new campaign, dealers will simply replace both side airbags on all cars, including the 78 recalled previously. NHTSA says the units were not properly packed during production and might not deploy properly in a crash.
