China’s Great Wall Motor Co. has opened a product development center in Kottingbrunn, Austria, that will focus on powertrain components for electric vehicles.

The company expects to invest €20 million (158 million yuan) in the facility by 2020. It says the center’s initial work will involve electric drive motors and related power control systems.

Great Wall specializes in SUV/crossovers, but the only electric model currently in its lineup is a small sedan. Automotive News China says the company is expected to add a plug-in hybrid crossover vehicle under its Wey premium brand within the next two months.
