A healthy economy and rising demand in underdeveloped parts of China should boost retail sales of passenger cars in the country by 4% in 2018—twice this year’s pace, says the China Passenger Car Assn.
The group reports that sales in the country expanded by nearly 2% to 21.4 million units in January-November. Deliveries last month climbed 3% to 2.5 million units.
CPCA anticipates strong sales in December as consumers rush to buy small cars before the government’s 2.5% break on such models expires. The group anticipates greater volume among cities in China’s central and western regions, where car ownership is only 35 per 100 households.
