Chinese safety officials have halted operations at 214 factories in Suzhou and 54 in Kunshan that process aluminum and magnesium, Reuters reports.

None of the facilities will reopen until it receives government approval. Reuters says the process could take three weeks.

The order comes after an explosion at Kunshan Zhongrong Metal Products Co., an aluminum wheel finisher, that killed 75 people last Saturday. The explosion has been attributed to metal dust that was ignited by a flame. Surviving workers there have described dust conditions in the plant as unbearable.

China's official Xinhua news agency says the State Council Work Safety Commission has ordered nationwide inspections of facilities that process aluminum, coal, cotton, magnesium, paper, plastic or tobacco.
