China has launched an investigation into more than 200 owner complaints about broken rear suspension control arms on the Sagitar sedan built locally by Volkswagen AG's venture with FAW Group Corp. The Sagitar is a variant of the VW Jetta.
The country's General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine says it has asked Changchun-based FAW-VW to fix the problem. It also urges owners to share their experiences to help with a technical analysis of the issue.
Last month FAW-VW declared the problem was rare and not caused by an error in design or production. Bloomberg News notes the company warned at the time it might take legal action against anyone spreading "untrue" statements about the issue.
