China Central Television has accused Volkswagen AG for the second time in three days of ignoring a defect in its cars, Reuters reports.
This time the complaint is that VW Magotan sedans and Tiguan SUVs have oil leaks that could cause a fire in the engine compartment. CCTV cites complaints in eight provinces and both Beijing and Shanghai. VW says it is aware of media reports and is investigating.
Last Sunday CCTV accused the company's dealerships of pushing parts and repairs that were not necessary. The company also criticized balky VW transmissions two years ago.
Numerous foreign brands, including several other car companies, have been increasingly scrutinized for various shortcomings over the past two years. VW, which is China's best-selling brand, says it takes such reports "very seriously."
