General Motors Co. is pulling the plug on the hybrid-electric variant of its Chevrolet Malibu sedan for the 2020 model year, according to Green Car Reports.

The slow-selling Malibu hybrid shared its drivetrain with the Chevy Volt, which also has been discontinued. The architecture, which teamed a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine with an electric motor and 1.5-kWh lithium-ion battery, had a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency fuel efficiency rating of 46 mpg.

GM increasingly is focusing on full electric vehicles rather than hybrid models. The carmaker plans to launch 20 EVs by 2023.
