Chao Confirmed to Head DOT
The U.S. Senate has confirmed Elaine Chao by a 93-6 margin the lead the Dept. of Transportation. Chao is a past deputy secretary for DOT and served as U.S. Secretary of Labor between 2001 and 2009.

The U.S. Senate has confirmed Elaine Chao by a 93-6 margin the lead the Dept. of Transportation.
Chao is a past deputy secretary for DOT and served as U.S. Secretary of Labor between 2001 and 2009. In her new role, Chao will shape the focus of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and determine how to guide the safe deployment of self-driving cars.
She also will oversee the Trump administration’s plan to spend as much as $1 trillion to improve the country’s infrastructure. Funding the ambitious program will require broad Congressional backing.
Taiwanese by birth, Chao is a Harvard Business School graduate who recently was named a distinguished fellow as the conservative Hudson Institute think tank. She is married to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky).
