Russia's demand for cars and light commercial vehicles, which fell 10% in 2014, is likely to plunge 24% to 1.89 million this year as economic recession looms, says the Moscow-based Assn. of European Businesses.

December volume rose 2% to 270,700 units, helped by increases for Hyundai, Kia, Renault, Nissan and Toyota. Sales by market leader AvtoVAZ fell 9%.

EB suggests December's overall sales improved as consumers hurried to buy big-ticket items before the ruble weakened further. But full-year volume sagged to 2.49 million units from 2.78 million in 2013.
