Members of the Canadian Auto Workers union at Ford Motor Co. have ratified a tentative four-year contract with the company by an 82:18 margin.
The union reached tentative settlements with Ford on Sept. 17 and with General Motors Co. three days later. The CAW's GM members are scheduled to vote on Wednesday and Thursday.
Union talks with Chrysler Group continue. The company considers the pattern set at Ford and GM to be a bit expensive, according to CAW President Ken Lewenza. He says the parties are discussing "creative" ways to accommodate Chrysler, such as spreading a C$3,000 (US$3,070) ratification bonus over several years.
Lewenza has predicted the union and Chrysler will reach an agreement early this week.
