Yesterday Canada began the formal process of ratifying the updated North American Free Trade Agreement signed last November.
Ratification of the accord, called the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement, had been stalled in all three countries until last week, when the Trump administration decided to exempt Canada and Mexico from its tariffs on imported steel and aluminum. Canada is the first signatory to begin the ratification process.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is eager to present the treaty to Canada’s Parliament for approval before the legislative body goes into summer recess at the end of June.RELATED CONTENT
