General Motors Co.'s Cadillac unit is recalling 121,000 ATS sport sedans worldwide to repair an electrical flaw that could cause a rear window defroster power module to overheat and catch fire. About 80% of affected cars are in the U.S.
The callback involves 2013-2016 models. GM blames the problem on a weak connection in the rear window's coil antenna module, which is housed behind the C-pillar trim behind the driver's side rear window. If the unit overheats from prolonged used, it could catch fire.
Dealers will reprogram the climate control software to disable a feature that automatically turns on the rear window defroster under certain climate conditions. Drivers will still be able to activate the defroster manually. GM reports four related fires but no injuries or crashes.
