General Motors Co. has named Uwe Ellinghaus to become its Cadillac brand's chief marketing officer, a new position for the luxury car unit, on Jan. 1.

His primary mission will be to extend the Cadillac brand globally.

Ellinghaus, 44, was CMO for BMW AG in 2010-2012 and most recently headed marketing and sales for Montblanc International.
