General Motors Co.’s Cadillac unit is planning an all-electric variant of the next-generation Escalade SUV, sources tell Cadillac Society.
The electric Escalade is targeting a 400-mile driving range and will feature an enhanced version of Cadillac’s Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving technology, according to the online enthusiast publication.
The fifth-generation Escalade is due next year as a 2021 model. But the electric iteration isn’t expected until sometime later, to take advantage of advanced battery technologies, Cadillac Society says.
In January, GM appointed Cadillac as its lead EV brand. The luxury marque plans to launch a new crossover vehicle in 2021 that will be the first to ride on the carmaker’s “BEV3” dedicated EV platform, which eventually will be used to carry 11 body variants.
