Chinese carmaker BYD Co. expects next month to begin selling an electric sedan it developed with Daimler AG through their 50:50 Shenzhen BYC Daimler New Technology venture.
The Denza will retail for 369,000 yuan ($60,000) but cost buyers about 255,000 yuan ($41,500) after a government subsidy.
BYD-Daimler says the car will have a range of about 185 miles. Charging could take as many as 32 hours using household current, or three hours with an optional 10,000-yuan ($1,600) fast charger.
The new EV will fit into BYD's electric lineup below the company's 380,000-yuan ($61,800) e6 crossover vehicle.
China hopes to put 500,000 EVs and plug-in hybrids on the road by 2015 from around 70,000 such vehicles to date. The country has bolstered its incentive program for EVs, prompting BYD to reiterate its goal of selling 20,000 electrics and plug-ins by the end of this year.
