BYD Co., China’s largest maker of electric vehicles, has signed a memorandum of understanding to begin assembling an array of electric cars, trucks and buses in Tangiers, Morocco, in 2018.

The company also plans to make EV batteries for the €20 million ($24 million) facility on the same 50-hectare (124-acre) manufacturing site. BYD says the factory’s first model will be an electric car.

Two other carmakers, PSA Group and Renault SA, already assemble conventionally powered vehicles in Morocco. The country reportedly will add a fourth carmaker by the end of 2021.
