Robert Bosch GmbH reports its sales surged 44% to a record €70.6 billion ($80.1 billion) in 2015, largely because of booming demand for its automotive sensors.

Results were bolstered by the company’s buyout of partners in two 50:50 joint ventures, which contributed a sales gain of about €22 billion ($24.9 billion). Earnings before interest and taxes climbed 24% to €4.6 billion ($5.2 billion) last year.

Sales of Bosch sensors and other hardware used for driver aid features and autonomous capabilities rose 12%—six times the growth in worldwide vehicle production—to €41.7 billion ($47.3 billion) in 2015. The company's mobility solutions unit posted EBIT of €3.5 billion ($4.0 billion).

Bosch cautions that its sales growth slowed at the beginning of this year. If the trend continues, the company says, full-year revenue growth is likely to be less than 4%.
