UPDATE: BMW Readies Plan to Replace 840,000 Takata Airbag Inflators

BMW AG plans to recall about 840,000 of its vehicles in the U.S. to replace Takata Corp. drive-side airbag inflators that could explode.
The campaign will cover cars made during the 2006-2015 model years. Affected models include;
- 2008-2013 model 1 Series 128, 135 and M cars
- Select 2006-2013 model 3 Series 325, 328, 330 and 335 2- and 4-wheel drive cars and wagons, and M coupes, sedans and convertibles
- 2013-2015 model X1 SUVs
- 2007-2010 model X3 SUVs
- 2007-2013 model X5 SUVs
- 2008-2014 model X6 crossovers
BMW notes the units covered by the new recall are in addition to some 1.8 million 3 Series cars the company called back in two campaigns in 2013-2014 to fix the same problem. The company has no replacement parts and has not indicated when it will be ready to begin the callback.
