BMW AG is developing an all-electric version of its high-volume 3 Series car and will unveil it in September at the Frankfurt auto show, Handelsblatt reports.
The vehicle is expected to have a driving range of about 400 km (about 250 miles), according to the German newspaper, which doesn’t cite its sources. BMW declines to comment.
An electric 3 Series sedan would compete directly with the $35,000 Model 3 EV Tesla Inc. plans to introduce later this year. Conventionally powered 3 Series sedans start at $33,500 in the U.S., but an electric model is likely to cost significantly more.
