Punch Powertrain NV says it will supply dual-clutch transmissions for use in PSA Group hybrid vehicles starting in 2022.

The Belgian supplier claims its gearboxes use fewer components and are lighter and smaller than other dual-clutch transmissions. PSA initially will use the transmissions in mild hybrid vehicles with an integrated 48-volt power system.

Punch says it may produce the transmissions at one of PSA’s facilities. The supplier acquired French power electronics specialist early this year.

PSA plans to electrify all its vehicles by 2025. Last month the carmaker created a Low Emission Vehicles unit to oversee EVs and powertrain management.
