Austria is pooling the electric-car charging stations operated by 11 suppliers into a single nationwide network of 1,300 publicly accessible points.

The plan, which is intended to help bolster demand for EVs, will take effect on April 11. Austria’s transport ministry says the network will be linked to others in Europe later this year. The country expects to expand the grid within Austria to 2,000 stations by the end of 2017 and 5,000 points in 2020.

Integrating multiple charging networks enables EV owners to use any of their facilities rather than establish separate contracts with each one. Reuters reports that some charging stations in Austria are not yet part of the 11-network array but are expected to join eventually.
