Audi AG is recalling 138,900 cars in the U.S. to fix a faulty electrical connection that could switch off the passenger-side airbag system.

The campaign concerns certain 2015-2019 model A3 small sedans, cabriolets and e-tron variants, and 2017-2019 RS3 sport sedans.
Audi says the defect can cause the car’s occupant detection system to sporadically turn the passenger-side airbags on and off, regardless of whether the seat is occupied. When a malfunction occurs, the instrument panel illuminates an airbag warning light, sounds an acoustic warning and displays an error message.
Dealers will reroute a cable under the passenger seat and replace the faulty connector when the recall begins in mid-August.
