Audi Recall Targets Faulty Airbag Sensors

Audi AG is calling back 170,100 vehicles in the U.S. and Canada to repair a corroded wire that may prevent the passenger-side frontal airbags from deploying when they should.
The recall applies to select 2017-2018 model A4 compact sedans and all 2018 model A5 and S5 midsize sedans.
A connecting wire for the passenger seat occupancy sensor may corrode and cause the sensor signal to be blocked, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Audi says the system is overly sensitive to surface oxidation, which it interprets as a malfunction.
Affected owners have reported that their instrument panels intermittently display an “airbag off” message when an adult occupies the seat—or indicate the airbag is armed when the seat is unoccupied, NHTSA says.
