Volkswagen AG plans to introduce a third model, a compact crossover, in its e-tron electric vehicle lineup in early 2021.

A concept version of the Q4 e-tron will be unveiled next month at the Geneva auto show. Sketches of the vehicle show a sporty design that Audi describes as the “next stage” of its EV ramp up.

The interior is highlighted by a futuristic sweep-around dashboard. A touchscreen infotainment display angles toward the driver.

Audi previously has announced plans for a conventionally powered Q4 compact crossover, which is due late this year. That vehicle will compete against the Range Rover Evoque and other sporty compact crossovers.

Audi is launching a larger electric crossover, known simply as the e-tron, this spring. The e-tron GT sports sedan is due next year.

One of the things that rarely gets the amount of attention that it should in a typical “car review” is the fact that for a considerable amount of time drivers are not “getting on the throttle” because for a considerable number of drivers, they’re “dwelling on the binders,” a.k.a., sitting with their foot depressed on the brakes, perhaps lifting every now and then in order to nudge forward in traffic.
