Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd. will unveil its new hybrid supercar on July 5 at its headquarters in Gaydon, England.
The carmaker is developing the vehicle, which is codenamed AM-RB 001, with Red Bull's Formula One racing team. The so-called hypercar is expected to cost as much as $3 million and will be limited to 99 street-legal models and a handful of track-only variants.
Aston Martin says the car will be “completely unique” and feature its own high-powered hybrid drivetrain. Media reports speculate the system will have a mid-engine layout anchored by an all-new 7.0-liter V-12 and an F1-style kinetic energy recovery system.
F1 designer Adrian Newey and Aston Martin stylist Marek Reichman, who are spearheading the project, are said to be assembling a “dream team” of top engineers, fabricators and aerodynamics experts. The car is scheduled for launch in 2018.
