Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd. is developing all-electric versions of its Rapide sedan and DBX crossover vehicle, Automotive News reports.
CEO Andy Palmer tells the newspaper the electric Rapide will debut in two years and the DBX EV is due by the end of the decade. Earlier this year Palmer indicated the carmaker was considering an electric Rapide.
The performance target for the Rapide is a 200-mile driving range with an output as high as 800 hp, according to Palmer. He says the car's battery pack will be sourced from an "established supplier" other than Panasonic. Palmer also notes that none of the EV's components will be shared with Mercedes-Benz, which has a 5% stake in Aston Martin and is jointly developing engines with the luxury carmaker.
Pricing of the electric Rapide likely will be in the $200,000-$250,000 range, Palmer says. The current traditionally powered Rapide starts at $205,000. Production will be limited to a few hundred units.
The all-new DBX crossover will start as a plug-in hybrid, which will be followed by a gasoline-powered model and finally an all-electric version, according to AN. Palmer says it hasn't been decided if the DBX will share a powertrain with the Rapide.
