Toyota Motor Corp. communications chief Julie Hamp has told police she does not have a prescription for the narcotic painkiller pills mailed to her from the U.S., Kyodo News reports.

Hamp says she asked her father to send her the oxycodone tablets so she could take them to reduce knee pain, according to the news service. She was arrested on June 18 after customs agents found dozens of the pills in a package of necklaces.

Japanese law prohibits the shipment of such drugs through the mail. It requires legitimate users to produce a doctor's prescription, obtain permission from the government's health ministry and personally carry the medication into the country.
