A senior engineer from Tesla Motors Inc. has moved to Apple Inc.'s team of automated driving experts, Reuters reports.

The news service says the LinkedIn profile for Jamie Carlson, a former engineer working on Tesla's Autopilot self-driving system, indicates he joined Apple's special projects group this month. He previously worked on vision systems for automatic mirror supplier Gentex Corp.

Apple has never confirmed the scope of its interest in vehicle automation. Analysts speculate the company is developing an electric vehicle that will be equipped with advanced telematics capabilities.

At least six other experts in such areas have joined Apple within the past 18 months from such employers as BMW, Carnegie Mellon University, Ford, Nvidia, Robert Bosch, Volkswagen and ZF TRW.
