Daimler AG has appointed Ola Kaellenius, chairman of its Mercedes-AMG performance unit, to become executive vice president of sales and marketing for the Mercedes car brand on Oct. 1.
Kaellenius succeeds Joachim Schmidt, 65, who is retiring after 34 years at Daimler, including four years in the sales and marketing job. The company has not yet named a replacement to run AMG.
Before taking charge of the performance group in 2010, Kaellenius was plant manager of the Mercedes assembly plant in Vance, Ala. During his 20-year Daimler career, the Swedish-born executive held a series of jobs involving powertrain and performance vehicles.
