Alt-Fuel Vehicle Sales Jump 38% in Europe

Registrations in Europe of all-electric, plug-in hybrid and other alternative-fuel vehicles rose 38% to 212,900 units in the first quarter of 2017, according to industry group ACEA.

Registrations in Europe of all-electric, plug-in hybrid and other alternative-fuel vehicles rose 38% to 212,900 units in the first quarter of 2017, according to industry group ACEA.

Sales of EVs in Europe grew 30% to 47,200 units in January-March. Demand for hybrids surged 61% to 111,000 vehicles. Registrations of new vehicles powered by propane or natural gas advanced 10% to 54,700 units.

The region’s largest first-quarter markets for alternative-fuel vehicles in January-March were Italy (62,400 units), the U.K. (33,400), France (29,000), Germany (23,900) and Spain (14,200), according to ACEA.
