Honda Motor Co. says the Acura RDX Prototype vehicle unveiled this week at the Detroit auto show is a near-production version of the third-generation RDX crossover due this summer.
The all-new RDX was developed by a U.S.-led team—a first for Acura. Styling was done at Acura’s Los Angeles design studio.
Built on a new platform, the 2019 RDX has a lower and wider stance than the current model. The vehicle also gets updated versions of Acura’s diamond pentagon grille and LED headlights.
The interior features a dual-zone 10-inch touchscreen that sits on top of the center console. Acura says the touchpad is mapped more precisely than other systems, allowing for more intuitive and direct correlation with controls.
Other interior highlights include a 710-watt Panasonic audio system and the largest sunroof in its class. A host of upscale materials and amenities are available, including a new “A-Spec” trim level that also will be offered in other upcoming Acura models.
The 2019 RDX will be powered by Honda’s new turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine mated with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The vehicle also will get an updated version of Acura’s torque-vectoring Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive system.
