Honda Motor Co.'s Acura unit says it is pushing back the launch of the new NSX hybrid sports car until next spring while it makes unspecified engine tweaks. Production had been due to start later this year.
The 2017-model NSX hybrid teams a twin-turbocharged V-6 engine with three electric motors and a 9-speed dual-clutch transmission. Media reports estimate the combination will generate about 550 hp.
One of the electric motors is positioned between the engine and gearbox to improve acceleration, braking and gear shifting, according to Acura. The other two motors are mounted at both ends of the front axle to enable torque vectoring. A dry-sump oil system and compact valvetrain result in a lower engine mounting position that enhances the car's center of gravity.
The NSX will be built in a special manufacturing facility at Honda's Marysville, Ohio, campus.
