New-car sales in the EU will increase about 2% this year compared with 5% in 2014, predicts industry group ACEA.

The trade association bases its forecast on research by IHS Automotive. The firm says low oil prices will contribute only 1% to global growth in sales. It anticipates even less impact in Europe, where taxes account for a high proportion of the pump price.

IHS expects the greatest percentage growth in Europe's car sales will occur in Spain and Italy, followed by Germany, the U.K. and southern EU member nations.
