Honda Motor Co. has verified an eighth case of a driver killed by shrapnel ejected from a defective Takata Corp. airbag inflator.
The latest fatality occurred in Los Angeles last September and involved a 2001 Honda Civic. Honda's confirmation comes a week after the company linked a seventh fatality this one in Louisiana to a Takata inflator in a 2005 Civic.
All eight fatalities—seven of them in the U.S.—occurred in Honda vehicles. Ten other carmakers have joined the company in recalling almost 34 million Takata inflators installed in U.S. cars.
