ZF Friedrichshafen AG has opened a €15 million ($15.8 million) facility in Telangana, India, to develop advanced electronics and software to expand the company's portfolio of "intelligent" mechanical systems.

Plans for the India Technology Center were announced last September. ZF says the facility, which will be completed over the next five years, will employ 2,500 engineers by 2020.

ZF notes it is expanding its software development capacity dramatically. It says it will be counting on the Indian facility to contribute to local research and product development projects.
