Shanghai-based Yanfeng Automotive Interiors officially opened its new North American headquarters in Novi, Mich., this week.
The 93,000-sq-ft Novi facility replaces the company’s previous operations in nearby Plymouth, Mich. Yanfeng invested $8.5 million in the campus, which initially will house 350 people. In addition to employees from the former Plymouth site, some workers from Yanfeng’s plant in Harrison Township, Mich., will relocate to Novi.
Another 65 people are due to be hired when an onsite technical center is completed. The tech center will focus on instrument panel engineering and testing.
Yanfeng Interiors was formed in 2015 as a joint venture between Yanfeng Automotive Trim Systems Co. and Johnson Controls Inc.’s interior business (spun-off as Adient Ltd. last year). The company makes instrument panels and cockpit systems, door panels, floor consoles, overhead consoles, lighting and decorative trim. The company employs more than 30,000 people at some 100 manufacturing plants and technical centers in 18 countries.
