About 1,500 workers at a China-owned auto glass plant in Moraine, Ohio, voted roughly two-to-one against having the United Auto Workers union represent them, according to the UAW.
The union complains that workers at the Fuyao Glass Industry Group’s factory faced a “barrage of anti-labor tactics” and management intimidation. Fuyao supplies multiple carmakers worldwide. It opened the Moraine facility last year.
The vote handed yet another loss to the UAW, which has been struggling for years to organize foreign-owned vehicle and component plants. The union lost a rancorous vote in August at Nissan Motor Co.’s assembly plant in Canton, Miss.
The UAW also failed by a slim margin to organize the bulk of hourly workers at Volkswagen AG’s Chattanooga, Tenn., plant in 2014. But it did win representation rights for about 160 skilled trades workers there.
