The Obama administration has nominated Mark Rosekind, a member of the National Transportation Safety Board, to lead the troubled National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Rosekind is considered an expert on human fatigue. He has been a member of the NTSB, which investigates plane and rail crashes, for four years.
NHTSA has been without a permanent head since David Strickland resigned as administrator at the end of 2013. This year the agency has been sharply criticized for belatedly discovering 10-year-old defects in General Motors ignition switches and Takata airbag inflators.
