VW Withdraws All 2016 Model Diesels in U.S.

Michael Horn, CEO of Volkswagen Group operations in the U.S., plans to confirm in testimony on Thursday that the company is withdrawing its application to certify its 2016 model 2.0-liter diesels for sale in the American market. Without certification, the vehicles cannot be sold in the U.S.
VW's formal decision comes two weeks after the Environmental Protection Agency announced it was withholding certification of most of the company's diesels after discovering 482,000 models sold between 2008 and 2015 were rigged to cheat their emission tests.
Cars targeted by EPA cover three generations of VW's so-called E189 family of 4-cylinder diesel powerplants. Horn says each engine will require a different upgrade to be brought into compliance.
