VW Truck & Bus Group Renamed Traton

Volkswagen AG’s Truck & Bus subsidiary has been renamed Traton AG.
The new name stands for “transforming transportation, tonnage and tradition,” according to VW. All the group’s current brand names will be continued.
VW formed the truck and bus unit in 2015, following earlier acquisitions of heavy-duty truckmakers MAN SE and Scania AB. The group also includes VW Caminhoes e Onibus and RIO.
Earlier this year, VW formed a strategic partnership with Japan’s Hino Motors Ltd. to coordinate their commercial truck operations worldwide. Potential areas of collaboration include procurement, manufacturing, powertrains and/or advanced technology systems.
VW Truck & Bus previously said it would spend €1.4 billion ($1.7 billion) by the end of 2019 on electrified and other advanced other technologies.
