Volkswagen AG’s namesake brand has decided not to participate in this year’s Paris auto show, which begins in early October.
Several other marques already have pulled out of the biennial show. The group includes Ford, PSA Group’s Opel unit, Mazda, Nissan/Infiniti and Volvo.
Despite its absence at the show, VW says it may host “various communications activities” in Paris during the event. Company officials say the brand continually reviews its participation at international auto shows and may return to Paris in 2020.
Several other VW Group companies—Audi, Porsche, SEAT and Skoda—still plan to have displays at this year’s Paris show. Audi didn’t participate in last year’s Frankfurt show and earlier this month opted out of next January’s Detroit auto show. BMW and Mercedes-Benz also are dropping out of the Detroit show.
