Volkswagen AG’s namesake brand is using Apple Inc.’s smartphones and other devices as styling benchmarks for upcoming electric vehicles.
The process includes “redefining” VW values when it comes to electrified vehicles, design chief Klaus Bischoff tells Reuters. He says the carmaker needs to “visualize a completely new architecture" that is significant, pure and as clear as possible.
VW is planning to launch a wave of EVs in coming years, starting with the I.D. hatchback in 2020. Bischoff says the brand will debut part of its new EV look at next month’s Geneva auto show. He notes that the carmaker’s less centralized approach to design is fueling greater excitement and styling freedom.
