VW Sales Stall in September

Worldwide sales by Volkswagen AG in September totaled 533,700 units, up only 0.2% year on year, as slumping demand in Russia and the Americas offset gains in western Europe.

VW sales through the first nine months of 2014 were 4.56 million compared with 4.43 million in the same period last year.

Demand in January-September rose 3% across Europe in spite of a 9% drop in central and eastern Europe. Volume surged 14% in Asia Pacific, thanks to a 15% jump in China (including Hong Kong) to 2.07 million.

Sales in the first three quarters fell 8% to 432,700 units in North America and plunged 19% to 488,000 in South America.
