Volkswagen AG is preparing a global recall of about 411,000 of its VW Polo and SEAT Arona and Ibiza small cars to fix a seatbelt buckle in that can unfasten itself.
VW says the issue affects only the left-hand seat in the second row of 2018 model cars, and only under very specific conditions. When that seat and the middle seat are occupied, the left-hand seatbelt buckle can unexpectedly unlatch during a sudden vehicle maneuver, such as a quick lane change.
Dealers will solve the problem by installing a redesigned belt lock fixture. In the meantime, VW advises owners of affected cars not to carry occupants in the middle and left rear seats simultaneously.
