Volkswagen AG, which cut hourly output at its auto plant in Russelsheim, Germany, last month to 42 vehicles, may soon lower the rate to 35 units, Reuters says.

The news service cites local media reports that indicate the company also may halt production entirely for about seven days in October. The accounts say VW has made no final decisions.

The company has struggled to certify hundreds of models—including more than 200 for the VW brand alone—in time to meet Europe’s new WLTP (world harmonized light vehicle test procedure) emission rule that took effect on Sept. 1.

VW said in June it would not build non-WLTP-compliant vehicles beginning this month. It also warned workers that production could be idled by delays in obtaining WLTP certifications.
