Volkswagen AG has purchased an unspecified stake in Hubject GmbH, a service that helps electric car drivers find nearly 40,000 charging points in Europe, Israel, Japan and New Zealand.
The Berlin-based company gives customers a single payment system for charging facilities operated by more than 240 providers. The company was launched in 2012 by BMW, Bosch, Daimler, EnBW, Innogy and Siemens.
VW’s investment comes as the group promises “massive investments” in e-mobility. The company aims by 2025 to introduce more than 30 electric models and achieve annual EV sales of at least two million units.
