Volkswagen AG has hired Derrick Hatami to be its executive vice president of sales and marketing in North America.
Hatami, 44, will begin his new assignment on June 12. He had been in charge of U.S. sales for Hyundai Motor Co., a post he held for nearly two years before exiting the company two days ago. He succeeds Mark McNabb, who was named CEO of Electrify America, a $2 billion restitution program that was part of VW’s settlement of its diesel emission cheating scandal.
Hatami holds a bachelor of science degree from Hawaii Pacific University and an MBA from the MIT School of Management. He previously headed Nissan Motor Co. sales in the U.S. between stints at Hyundai. His 17-year career in the auto industry also includes consulting assignments with J.D. Power and Accenture.
VW says Hatami will be responsible for setting the company’s strategies for sales, marketing product planning and aftermarket operations. He will report to Hinrich Woebcken, CEO of Volkswagen of America Inc.
