Volkswagen Group sales in February dipped 1% to 693,300 units as a 5% drop to 394,400 units for the VW brand offset gains by the company’s other marques.

Analysts assume the slump in demand for VW brand cars and crossovers is caused by the expanding scandal over VW’s admission that it rigged 11 million diesels to sidestep emission standards.

February sales increased for Audi (+3% to 126,500 units), Skoda (+4% to 78,800 units) and Porsche (+2% to 15,100). SEAT’s volume was virtually unchanged at 28,700 units.

The group reports sales of its VW brand commercial vehicles climbed 11% to 35,700 units last month. Heavy commercial truck sales by its MAN and Scania brands rose 6% to 7,500 and 3% to 5,900, respectively.
