Volkswagen AG, which expects its sales in China to climb 10% to 2.49 million units in 2012, predicts a gain of at least 9% there next year, says Bloomberg News.

The company sold 2.26 million vehicles in China last year, up 17% from 2010.

Chairman Ferdinand Piech tells the news service the "tremendous" growth will result from rising car ownership by Chinese consumers.

VW said last year it would double its production capacity in the country to 4 million vehicles per year by 2018 to meet rising demand.
